The Quilt is coming together

Well here is part of the Butterfly quilt I am making for the contest, mind you I will not be showing the entire quilt until after it is shown at the Museum.

Today I have been doing a lot of applique, which is what is known as rawedge applique, on this quiult. Some people preger to needle turn, others use pressing, I chose due to the size of this project to just do the raw edges. Now once all have been appliqued, it will be time to thread paint, you will see a preview, then the quilting will begin.
This has to be to the Musuem next week, so will be working on it for a few days.

Long Time No Post, Sorry

It has been a long and crazy past month or so. Way too many things going on, and lots of work to be done. We have been gone working two weekends which is good, but keeps us laying low for a couple of days after recouperating.

I have finally started my Butterfly Quilt.

On the right is the photo that I am trying to in a small way duplicate, then on the left is the beginning. This is how it all starts, long way from done, but it is the beginning. Like with all things, they have to start somewhere. This photo was taken in my butterfly garden, I have had the house for a long time, and have not found another one like it.

I will keep everyone posted on my progress, it will be a long process, but it has to be done by the 7th of January as it needs to go to Grand Island for an Exhibit. Well I am planning on it anyway, I will find out if I have been accepted on the 22 of this month.

Love of Quilts

I have a love for quilts of all kinds. If I were to choose, it would be art quilts hands down, as they to me are an expression of what the eye sees. It is difficult if not impossible to duplicate a photograph, but with shading here and there, fabric can be used to give the appearance of the photo. It is truely amazing what can be done.with a little piece here and a little piece there. I have learned that a good ole crayon, used as shading will make a lot of difference. When used as an accent then ironed to take the wax off, it is amazing.
My DH soaked his computer with coffee this morning. The jury is still out as to wether it will survive the shower. We will leave it dry for a couple of days, pray really hard, then hopefully it will be saved. My DS is a computer wizard, and he said that it needs to be completely dry, so we will wait.
I will be posting my art quilt tomorrow, it is on the wall and the fabric has been pressed. Can't wait to see it finished.

Busy trying to catch up.

Here are a couple of quilts that I have done in the past. They are a customers which I found so interesting.
The gypsy one is made using old hankies, brings back memories.

This is a quilt I finished for a customer. She is a really girly, girl, so wanted flashy hearts, hence the gold metalic in ribbon hearts. Glad to have that done, as metalic thread and I are not the best of friends.

Well Thanksgiving was here and not it is almost gone. Not sure if I am happy or sad, or maybe a little of both.

My DH and I went to North Platte, NE to his sisters for the evening. Left here then went to WalMart for an ink cartridge. Couldn't believe that WalMart was open for the entire day. Do they not every close?

Need to really get to cranking in the next week, have a couple of art quilts to finish for Christmas presents, then one to do for the art show. All that I am doing is important, but time consuming.

Where has the time gone?

We had plans, heavy on the HAD, but it is all okay as things just work out that way some times. I have two older sisters, one 72 in Des Moines, IA and the other 63 lives 8 miles from me. We had reservations to stay in the Crescent View Bed and Breakfast in Crescent, IA, home of the ole Pink Poodle Steakhouse. First my sister near me got sick, then my DH got sick, now what does that tell ya? My sister was getting much better, and my DH was or still is suffering, but some better. To explain, my DH is a insulin dependent diabetic, for those who have never been around such an illness, stress, sickness, weather, and/or just about everything affects his blood sugars. So he can go from a wonderful 100, to 400, then drop to 20 in a matter of moments. Well maybe not that quick, but it is bad, so we decided not to partake in the B&B right now. We will be planning again, as life is too short, and we are not getting any younger. My first husband was 44 when he died, so life can be too short.
Enough of all that, hope everyone has had a great weekend, and I will be working on my "Live Forever Little Butterflies" quilt, so stay tuned.

Time has gone by too fast...

Today I was able to sleep one extra hour, what a blessing! I can't remember the last time I have not been in such a rush to get up, get breakfast and then be off to my daily tasks. Life is passing by and I am not taking the time to smell even one rose.
Tomorrow will be the first day of the week, and of a life change.
